Lords ask: how can public services help keep us well for longer?
The House of Lords Select Committee on Public Service and Demographic Change will quiz experts and service providers on what more can be done to help older people stay healthy and independent for longer and why it seems so difficult for services to work together on Tuesday 13 November.
At 9.45am, the Committee will hear from:
- Geoff Alltimes, former Chief Executive of Hammersmith and Fulham Council and NHS Future Forum joint lead;
- Mike Farrar CBE, Chief Executive, NHS Confederation;
- Professor Julien Forder, Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent; and
- Phil Pegler, Chief Executive, Carewatch Care Services.
The Committee will be exploring how those who design and pay for health and care services make sure that services work together, so that what they buy is designed around people, not systems.
Following on, at 11am, the Committee will question:
- Andrew Bonser, Director of Public Policy, Alliance Boots;
- Ben Jupp, Director, Social Finance;
- Professor Martin Knapp, London School of Economics and Political Science and Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU); and
- Professor Les Mayhew, Cass Business School.
The Committee will be asking whether, with an ageing population, services should be doing more to stop or delay health problems developing in the first place: if we want prevention as well as cure, what needs to be done?
The evidence session will take place at 9.45am on Tuesday 13 November in Committee Room 2A of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
