Lords Science Committee to hear from regenerative medicine experts
Professor Anthony Hollander, an expert in tissue engineering whose team created a replacement trachea using a patient's own stem cells, will appear before the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee as part of their inquiry into Regenerative Medicine.
Professor Hollander, from the University of Bristol and spin-out company Azellon, will be joined in the evidence session by:
- Dr Paul Kemp, Intercytex Ltd; and
- Dr Drew Burdon, Smith and Nephew.
The witnesses will be asked about issues including:
- raising finances for the development of regenerative treatments and therapies;
- effective ways of encouraging partnership working between academics, clinicians, industry and charities to ensure that world-class science leads to effective treatments for patients; and
- lessons that can be learnt from the United States in providing support for companies to develop regenerative treatments.
The evidence session will take place at 10.40am on Tuesday 13 November in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
