How well are local authorities caring for older people? Lords to quiz social care providers
On Tuesday 20 November, the House of Lords Select Committee on Public Service and Demographic Change will be speaking to social care providers and experts and a charity for older people about social care in practice.
At 9.45am, the Committee will hear from:
- Angela Geer, Director for Strategy, Innovation and Development, WRVS;
- Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive, English Community Care Association;
- William Laing, Chief Executive, Laing & Buisson (Consultancy) Ltd; and
- Sue Redmond, Director of Adult Social Services, Wiltshire Council.
The Committee will use the session to explore how local authorities and care structures are addressing the challenges of making sure the right level of social care is being provided to an ageing population through the support of the state, the social care market and informal caring. Members will also question the witnesses on quality problems in residential and home care.
The evidence session will take place at 9.45am on Tuesday 20 November in Committee Room 2A of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
