Academics quizzed by Lords on media convergence and public policy
The Lords Communications Committee will be holding the first evidence session of their new inquiry on Tuesday 23 October.
The Committee's new inquiry intends to examine the issue of media convergence and how public policy may need to do more to adapt and reform in its wake.
In their first session, at 3.30pm, the Committee will be hearing from:
- Dr Damian Tambini, Senior lecturer in Media and Communications, London School of Economics; and
- Professor Stewart Purvis, Professor of Television Journalism, City University.
Following on, at 4.30pm, the Committee will hear from:
- Professor Patrick Barwise, Professor of Management and Marketing, London Business School; and
- Dr David Levy, Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Oxford University.
All witnesses will face questions on issues including:
- the biggest policy and regulatory challenges posed by media convergence;
- the speed and scope of the changes taking place; and
- the challenges posed by the regulatory and legal reach of the UK in the light of media convergence.
The evidence session will take place at 3.30pm on Tuesday 23 October in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
