University professors probed by Lords Committee
The House of Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Sub-Committee will be hearing from academics from three universities on Wednesday 24 October, to talk about the EU's Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM).
At 11am, the Committee will be questioning:
- Professor Christina Boswell, School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh;
- Professor Ronald Skeldon, Sussex Centre for Migration Research, University of Sussex;
- Professor Andrew Geddes, University of Sheffield, currently on secondment to the Migration Policy Centre of the European University Institute.
Issues that the witnesses are likely to be asked about include:
- areas in which EU migration policies have made the most – and least – progress;
- any impact the global economic and financial crisis may have had on European migration trends within, to and from Europe;
- whether there is any hope that Europe will be able to ‘speak with one voice' on migration; and
- their personal views on calls to remove international students from net migration statistics.
The evidence session will take place at 11am on Wednesday 24 October in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
