Lords question MEP on the effectiveness of EU research and innovation
The House of Lords Internal Market, Infrastructure and Employment EU Sub-Committee will open its new inquiry, on the effectiveness of EU research and innovation proposals, by questioning Malcolm Harbour CBE on Monday 4 February.
Mr Harbour is the Chair of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection at the European Parliament.
The Committee will quiz Mr Harbour on issues including:
- the essential elements of an effective research and innovation proposal;
- if the current modes of Member State cooperation on research and innovation are effective enough and if other methods could also be used;
- whether the EU can add value with ideas and funding in ‘non-traditional' areas of research and innovation;
- the rationale behind the European Parliament's European Added Value Unit; and
- how the current economic crisis in Europe has affected the research and innovation environment at national and EU levels.
The evidence session will take place at 5pm on Monday 4 February in Committee Room 2.
