Peers question representatives from ITV
In the latest evidence session of their inquiry into media convergence, the Lords Communications Committee will question an expert on media convergence, currently a visiting fellow at the Reuters Institute for the study of Journalism and representatives from ITV on Tuesday 15 January.
At 3.30pm, the Committee will hear from Lara Fielden.
Ms Fielden has conducted research into media convergence, arguing that the current regulatory framework for UK media - separating broadcast, newspaper and online content - has run its course. The Committee will explore her proposals for a new regulatory settlement across the media.
Following on, at 4.30pm, the Committee will question the following representatives from ITV:
- Simon Pitts, Director of Strategy and Transformation; and
- Magnus Brooke, Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs.
The Committee will explore the challenges and opportunities brought about by convergence for ITV and public service broadcasters (PSBs) more widely.
In particular, the Committee will consider how convergence will affect the content we see on our screens and how it is delivered to us, as well as ultimately, what the implications of all of this will be for the evolving role of PSBs and the wider media world to which they belong.
The evidence session will take place at 3.30pm on Tuesday 15 January in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
