Lords quiz Ofcom chiefs past and present on media convergence
On Tuesday 29 January, in the latest evidence session of their inquiry into media convergence and its public policy impact, the Lords Communications Committee will question two former Deputy Chairmen of Ofcom, followed by the organisation's current Chief Executive.
At 3.30pm, the Committee will hear from former Deputy Chairmen of Ofcom, Richard Hooper CBE and Philip Graf CBE.
Currently engaged respectively as Chairman of the Broadband Stakeholder Group and Chairman of the Gambling Commission, Mr Hooper and Mr Graf have an enormous breadth of experience across media policy and regulation. The Committee will invite their personal views on the public policy impact of media convergence and in particular on a number of the proposals that have been made during the inquiry to bring media regulation up to date in its wake.
Following on, at 4.30pm, the Committee will have the opportunity to question Ed Richards, the current Chief Executive of Ofcom.
Mr Richards will answer the Committee's questions on the impact of convergence on a range of areas of public policy interest; from the scrutiny of competition in converging markets, to the prospects for license-based broadcast regulation and a variety of alternative recommendations which the Committee have received for reform of the content standards framework.
The evidence sessions will take place on Tuesday 29 January at 3.30pm in Committee Room 2.
The evidence sessions will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv and are open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
