Does the Mental Capacity Act help carers to care?
The week after it was revealed that carers were being ignored in end of life decisions, the House of Lords Committee scrutinising the Mental Capacity Act 2005 will hear from carers groups.
On Tuesday 30 July, representatives of three organisations will tell peers about their members' experiences of caring for vulnerable people.
At 10.40am, the Committee will hear from:
- Moira Fraser, Director of Policy and Research at the Carers Trust;
- Emily Holzhausen, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Carers UK; and
- Oi Mei Li, Director of the National Family Care Network.
The organisations will face questions from the Committee such as:
- Where do carers learn what they have to do under the Act?
- Are carers aware of their rights to be consulted by healthcare professionals and is this happening in practice?
- Does the law protect those vulnerable to poor or abusive care?
The evidence session will take place at 10.40am, on Tuesday 30 July in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
