City of London Corporation to give evidence on Genuine Economic and Monetary Union proposals

The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs will tomorrow take evidence from Mark Boleat, Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee of the City of London Corporation and Dr Adam Marshall, Director of Policy and External Affairs at the British Chambers of Commerce. The session is part of the Committee's inquiry into EU plans for Genuine Economic and Monetary Union (GEMU) and its implications for the UK.

The Committee will ask the witnesses whether there are elements of the proposed GEMU that they regard as a threat to the international position of the City of London, what the impact of GEMU might be for the single market in financial services, and whether proposals for a banking union will decisively break the link between bank and sovereign debt.

The evidence session will start at 10:45am on Tuesday 11 June in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.

The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
