Lords quiz Tessa Jowell and Ken Livingstone on Olympic Legacy

It will be the Committee's second evidence session in their inquiry to consider whether the right approach is being taken to delivering a legacy from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Committee is beginning its evidence sessions by exploring the aspirations for the eventual legacy.

Following on from Dame Jowell and Mr Livingston, the Committee will question former sports journalist John Goodbody.

The Committee are likely to quiz the witnesses on issues including:

• the origins of the bid to host the London 2012 Olympics and the reasons why previous bids were unsuccessful;
• the reasons for choosing East London as the preferred location for the Olympic park and the subsequent discussions and decisions about its ongoing use;
• the likelihood of increased participation in sports following the games, both in schools and in general;
• the potential benefits – if indeed there are any – to the rest of the UK, outside of London; and
• issues surrounding the funding of the games and lessons which could be learned by other host cities in the future.

The evidence sessions will take place at 10.45am on Wednesday 12 June in Committee Room 3A.
