Media plurality inquiry to hear from Lords Puttnam and Fowler
On Tuesday 2 July, the House of Lords Communications Committee will put questions to Lord Puttnam and Lord Fowler in the latest evidence session of its current inquiry into media plurality.
Both peers have played highly influential roles in debates over media plurality over the past decade. Lord Puttnam chaired the Joint Committee on the Draft Communications Bill, and is heavily associated with the current public interest test at the heart of media plurality rules, introduced through an amendment often referred to as the "Puttnam amendment".
Lord Fowler has played a similarly influential role, not least as former Chairman of the House of Lords Communications Committee through its inquiry, and subsequent report, into the Ownership of the News.
The evidence sessions will take place on Tuesday 2 July from 3.30 pm in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
