Lords Science Committee to report on regenerative medicine

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will publish its report on regenerative medicine on Monday 1 July 2013.

The Committee has been looking into whether the UK has the facilities and policies in place to translate its world leading regenerative medicine research base into treatments and associated commercial opportunities.

Through the course of the inquiry the Committee have been impressed by both the potential health and economic benefits of regenerative medicine, the strong science base in the UK and the significant potential housed in the NHS. The report will explore whether the UK's regulatory landscape, support mechanisms, funding models, and manufacturing and delivery capability will allow the UK to make the most of that potential.

The Committee have taken evidence from a wide range of organisations including: the Department of Health, The Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, the Cell Therapy Catapult Centre, the Human Tissue Authority, and representatives of the science base and industry involved in developing regenerative treatments.
