Lords Committee to hear from Dieter Helm on economics of shale gas


The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will tomorrow take evidence from Professor Dieter Helm of Oxford University as well as Professor Richard Davies of the Durham Energy Institute and Howard Rogers from the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

The Committee are holding an inquiry into the Economic Impact on UK Energy Policy of Shale Gas and Oil, as part of that they will question the academics on a range of areas including the impact of UK and European gas prices of US development of shale gas, the prospects for large scale shale gas production in the UK, the possibility of energy intensive industries leaving the UK due to high energy prices and whether fracking to release shale gas and oil could lead to earthquakes.

The evidence sessions will start at 3:35pm on Tuesday 19 November in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
