Joint Committee on Draft Deregulation Bill to open inquiry with evidence from Cabinet Office and Law Commissions
The Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Draft Deregulation Bill will tomorrow open its inquiry with an evidence session with officials from the Cabinet Office and the Department of Business Innovation and Skills as well as the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Law Commission and the Chief Executive of the Scottish law Commission
The Committee will hold two evidence sessions on Wednesday 16 October in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. The Committee will hear from:
4.10 pm
Dr Will Cavendish, Charlotte Spencer and David Howarth from the Cabinet Office.
Graham Turnock and Ffiona Kyte from the department of Business Innovation and Skills.
5.15 pm
Rt Hon Lord Justice Lloyd Jones, Chairman, Law Commission and Elaine Lorimer, Chief Executive, Law Commission.
Malcolm McMillan, Chief Executive, Scottish Law Commission.
The witnesses will be asked whether sufficient consultation has been undertaken by the Government in drafting the Bill, how the proposed Ministerial power to disapply legislation ‘no longer of practical use' relates to the statute repeal function of the Law Commissions and whether a proposed requirement for non-economic regulators to promote growth is appropriate.
