How does the EU's agenda for higher education fit with the Government's?
In a one-off evidence session on Wednesday 30 October, the House of Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU-Sub Committee will question David Willetts MP, Universities Minister, on developments in European higher education and how they dovetail with the Government's own international education strategy
Questions Mr Willetts is likely to face include:
- What proportion of the forecast increase in foreign students studying for UK qualifications is likely to come from the EU?
- What is the Government doing to maximise the participation and success of UK higher education institutions, research organisations and businesses in securing funding under the Horizon 2020 programme?
- How will the UK take advantage of the increased funding for student mobility programmes such as ‘Erasmus '?
- What is the Government's view of the Commission's ongoing development of a European ranking of higher education institutions (U-Multirank)?
- To what extent are the Government's immigration policies adversely affecting the objectives of the UK's international education strategy, and will proposals under the Immigration Bill have an effect on the UK's ability to recruit students from the EU and elsewhere?
The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 30 October at 10.45 am in Committee Room 3.
