The Committee are looking into how effectively national parliaments can shape and influence decision making at an EU level. This includes, but is not limited to, their new power under the Lisbon Treaty to give national parliaments a mechanism to raise concerns about subsidiarity with the EU Commission.
On Tuesday 8 October at 4.10pm the Committee will take evidence from Charles Grant, Director at the Centre for European Reform, and Mats Persson, Director of Open Europe. The evidence session will be in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords.
The Committee will ask the witnesses how successful national parliaments have been at influencing EU decision making; how they can be more influential; which national parliaments are particularly effective in this work; and whether cooperation between national parliaments in this area could be improved.
