Lords take evidence from Supreme Court judge on insurance bill


The House of Lords Special Public Bill Committee on the Insurance Bill will take evidence next week from Supreme Court Judge Lord Mance, as well as industry professionals.

On Tuesday 9 December, the Committee will continue its scrutiny of the Insurance Bill, which as a Law Commission Bill is undergoing its committee stage through this special committee.

As well as evidence from Lord Mance, the Committee will also hear from the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce, the British Insurance Brokers' Association, and the British Insurance Law Association.

At 10.10am on Tuesday the Committee will hear from:

  • Lord Mance, Supreme Court;
  • John Hurrell, Chief Executive, and Paul Hopkin, Technical Director, AIRMIC (Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce);
  • Graeme Trudgill, Executive Director, and Graham Terrell, Deputy Chairman of the Liability & Accident Committee, British Insurance Brokers' Association; and
  • Michael Mendelowitz, Chairman, British Insurance Law Association.

The evidence session will take place at 10.10am on Tuesday 9 December, in Committee Rooms 4.

The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
