Lords EU committee investigating EU-Russia relations hears from Government Minister
On Monday 15 December the House of Lords EU external affairs committee will take evidence from the Rt Hon David Lidington MP, Minister for Europe.
In the final evidence session of the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on External Affairs' inquiry into EU-Russia relations, the panel will ask the Minister for his views on lessons learnt from Ukraine, whether sanctions have worked, the implications of the Eurasian Economic Union, and how to build a long-term relationship with Russia.
Questions he will face include:
- What steps have been taken to learn from the crisis in Ukraine?
- Is current EU support for Ukraine sufficient?
- How successful would you say the EU sanctions policy has been?
- What have been the negative consequences, if any?
- What does Russia need to do in order for them to be eased?
- What is the implication for the EU of the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union?
- In what non-political areas can the EU engage with Russia in the future?
- Should the EU try to engage with President Putin on his long-term strategic proposals?
- What support does the UK provide to Russian civil society?
The evidence session will start at 2.35pm on Monday 15 December in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
