Lords EU Committee investigating EU-Russia relations hears from Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs


On Thursday 4 December the House of Lords EU external affairs committee will take evidence from Dmitry A. Polyanskiy, senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Russia.

At 10.05am on Thursday, Mr Polyanskiy, who is the Deputy Director of the First Department of CIS Countries at the Ministry, will give evidence to the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on External Affairs, as part of their ongoing inquiry into EU-Russia relations.

Questions he will face include:

  • How was the Eurasian Economic Union formed?
  • What are relations like between the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union?
  • What are the implications of the Eurasian Economic Union for parallel EU trade agreements?
  • What mistakes were made by the EU and individual Member States in the run up to the crisis in Ukraine?
  • What impact will Ukraine's Free Trade Agreement with the EU have on Ukraine-Russia trade?
  • What are Russia's concerns regarding this free trade agreement? Is it detrimental to the Russian economy?
  • Why have Russia and the EU struggled to build a cooperative and beneficial relationship? 

The evidence session will start at 10.05am on Thursday 4 December in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.

The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
