Lords question Public Health Minister on future EU Alcohol Strategy
In the final evidence session of its inquiry into the future EU Alcohol Strategy, the House of Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Sub-Committee will question Jane Ellison MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health at the Department of Health.
During the course of the inquiry, the Committee has heard from drinks producers, advertisers and marketeers, substance misuse experts and support organisations, policy officials, medical experts and academics. In this session, the Committee will be questioning Ms Ellison on:
- whether the Government believes that there should continue to be an EU Alcohol Strategy, and if so, what it should look like;
- whether there is any evidence that the 2006-2012 Strategy has had any influence on UK policy;
- whether the Government intends to commission research into alcohol-related issues, such as the effect of advertising on young people, or the likely consequences of minimum unit pricing;
- the success of the UK's Responsibility Deal Alcohol Network and any lessons that could be learned from it;
- what role the Government believes the alcohol industry should play in both the formulation of alcohol policy and the development and implementation of a new EU strategy.
The evidence session will take place at 10.45am, on Wednesday 10 December in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
