Tweet Lords EU Committee questions for ministers Esther McVey and Matthew Hancock
The House of Lords Committee investigating EU action to reduce high levels of unemployment will next week quiz two government ministers
For this session they want to hear from the public, and would like people to tweet questions using the hashtag #jobs4youth.
On Monday 3 February the House of Lords EU Sub Committee on the Internal Market, Infrastructure and Employment, will put to Esther McVey MP, Minster of State for Employment, and Matthew Hancock MP, Minister for Skills and Enterprise, questions on areas such as careers advice and training opportunities for young people, how EU funds for tackling youth unemployment should be spent, and how young people can be involved in policy making.
Commenting ahead of the session, Chair of the Committee Baroness O'Cathain said:
“Youth unemployment is a huge concern across the EU, and we've heard from a wide variety of witnesses throughout this investigation on issues such as careers advice, opportunities for young people, the effectiveness of EU programmes, the skills gap, and labour migration.
For next week's evidence session, we are keen to hear from people who may have questions they'd like us to put to the UK Government on the issue. So I would encourage people to tweet us their question, using the hashtag #jobs4youth, and we will put a selection of them to the ministers next Monday.”
Deadline for tweeting a question is 4.00 pm Friday 31 January.
The evidence session will start at 4.15 pm on Monday 3 February in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
