Three Ministers to be quizzed by Lords on generating value from our waste
Three Ministers will give evidence next Tuesday 14 January to the Lords Committee investigating the potential wealth to be generated from waste
Michael Fallon MP, Minister of State for Business and Energy at BIS and Minister of State for Energy at DECC, Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Climate Change at DECC, and Dan Rogerson MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for water, forestry, rural affairs and resource management at DEFRA, will all attend the final evidence session of the six month inquiry.
Dring the inquiry, the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has heard about new technologies which enable valuable products to be created from waste – simultaneously delivering economic and environmental benefits. Ministers will be asked what steps Government can take to make sure the potential of this growing area is realised. They will be asked how departments work together to deliver a long term strategy and to support investment in new, value from waste technologies.
Other questions the Committee will ask include?
- What more can the Government do to stimulate a waste-based bioeconomy?
- Does central Government now need to take a firmer line in making sure the potential of waste is maximise?
- What can you do to make sure the Green Bank is effective in this field?
- What works better to encourage investors, incentives or taxes?
- What can be done to remove the risk from investment?
The evidence session will take place on Tuesday 14 January, starting at 10.40 am in Committee Room 3.
