Government's chief nuclear adviser gives evidence to Lords Committee on long-term nuclear strategy

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee is to question Dame Sue Ion, Chair of the Nuclear Innovation and Research Advisory Board.

On Tuesday 15 July the Committee will hold a one-off evidence session to get an independent update on the Government's long-term nuclear strategy.

The Nuclear Innovation and Research Advisory Board (NIRAB) is the Government's principal adviser on nuclear strategy, and the Committee hopes to hear from the chair on research priorities, progress on an international strategy for research and development, and the overall health of investment levels in nuclear R & D.

Questions which the Committee will put to Dame Sue Ion include:

  • What is the progress in implementing the research and development roadmap?
  • What are NIRAB's priorities and plans?
  •  Is nuclear R&D funding adequate?
  • How are plans for an international strategy developing?
  • What are the challenges therein?
  •  How do you perceive the National Nuclear Laboratory's transition to a National Laboratory?

The evidence session will be held on Tuesday 15 July at 10.40am in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords.

This evidence session constitutes a further piece of follow up activity to the Committee's 2011 report, Nuclear R&D Capabilities. The evidence taken during the Committee's follow-up activity can be found here.

The session will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
