Lords Committee on the Arctic appointed
The House of Lords has today agreed to appoint a new ‘ad hoc' Committee on the Arctic to be chaired by Lord Teverson.
The Committee will consider the opportunities and risks arising from increasing access to the Arctic region, and their implications for the UK. The issues to be explored will include the potential impact on shipping routes, energy resources, mineral extraction, the environment, international relations, security, tourism, fisheries and indigenous people.

The Committee will publish a Call for Evidence in July and will then embark on a series of public evidence sessions with witnesses. It will publish its Report by March 2015.
The Members of the House of Lords serving on the Committee include Lord Oxburgh, a geologist and geophysicist with experience in the energy sector, Lord Hunt of Chesterton, a meteorologist and Emeritus Professor of Climate Modelling at University College London, and experts in international relations.
