Lords question Government Ministers on state of UK's digital skills
Can the Government deliver a coherent digital strategy to position the UK as a global leader? What more can the Government do to promote the UK's digital economy? What is the Government doing to ensure a supply of properly trained teachers? How are the digital needs of SMEs and industry being supported by Government?
On Tuesday 18 November two Government Ministers will answer these questions and others before the House of Lords Digital Skills Committee.
The Committee is investigating information and communications technology, competitiveness and skills, and in its last evidence session will hear from Nick Boles MP, Minister of State for Skills and Equalities, and Ed Vaizey MP, Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy.
The evidence session will start at 11:15am on Tuesday.
Questions the Ministers will face include:
- How well coordinated are the Government's efforts to deliver a coherent digital strategy?
- Is the lack of a cross-Government Digital Minister hampering the Government's vision?
- What is the Government's plan to tackle the risks inherent in the new digital economy, such as cybercrime and online security?
- How competitive is the UK currently? How does the Government plan to make the UK a digital leader?
- How can the Government ensure the HE and FE sectors provide the right skills?
- How are schools delivering the right skills? Are teachers being properly trained?
- Can we be confident that we have a careers guidance framework that is able to understand the content as well as keep up with technological change?
The evidence session will take place in Committee Room 2 on Tuesday 18 November starting at approximately 11:15am.
The sessions will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and are also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
