End of an era: Lords quiz outgoing Ofcom Chief

In a one-off evidence session, the House of Lords Communications Committee will question Ed Richards, the outgoing Chief Executive of Ofcom, on Tuesday 18 November.

Mr Richards has been with Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition adjudicator for the UK communications industry, since it was established in 2004, and has been its Chief Executive since 2006. The Committee will use the session to ask Mr Richards what he thinks has been achieved during his time at the helm of Ofcom, and what he thinks are the strategic priorities for the organisation in the future.

Issues the Committee are likely to explore with Mr Richards include:

  • changes in the broadcasting landscape of the UK and the implications of these for media and regulation policy;
  • the role of legislation and policy in a rapidly changing sector;
  • key international developments and the potential impact on the UK Communications sector; and
  • issues faced by consumers, including switching providers and the protection of audiences.

The evidence session will take place on Tuesday 18 November at 4.30pm in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.

The sessions will be webcast at www.parliamentlive.tv and are also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
