Government Ministers to face Lords Committee investigating Equality Act 2010
Next week, on Tuesday 15 December, the House of Lords Committee on the Equality Act 2010 and Disability will take evidence from Government Ministers.
Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, Department for Education; Justin Tomlinson MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Disabled People, Department for Work and Pensions; and Andrew Jones MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Transport, will all give evidence.
Questions which the Committee could put to the Ministers include:
- What role does the Minister for Disabled People take in preventing any disproportionate impact of cuts on disabled people?
- Why have the provisions on taxis carrying passengers in wheelchairs still not been brought into force after 20 years?
- How could the decision making on the closure of the Independent Living Fund have been improved?
- Do you support giving local authorities stronger powers to enforce the Act?
- Would you consider abolishing tribunal fees for discrimination claims?
- Would you support the creation of a disability ombudsman?
The evidence sessions will start at 3.20pm, on Tuesday 15 December, in Committee Room 4a of the House of Lords.
