Lords Committeeto quiz Professor Ann Dowling on her review into university and business links
On Tuesday 7 July the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will question Professor Dame Ann Dowling, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, on her review into how businesses can best connect with university research.
The Dowling Review, published yesterday (2 July), urges the Government to simplify the ways in which universities and industry collaborate. It also calls for a culture change in universities and businesses in order to support collaboration.
In the one-off evidence session, at 10.40am, the Committee will ask Professor Dowling questions on her review, such as:
- Why has the research and business landscape become so complex?
- What are the best ways to simplify it?
- What is the culture change that is needed in universities and businesses?
- Is the idea that business-funded research can lead to a perceived conflict of interest a valid one?
- What can be done about that?
- What makes this review more important than many of the others before it?
The evidence session will be held on Tuesday 7 July, at 10.40am in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
