Lords approve four new committees for the next Parliament

The House of Lords has today approved the Liaison Committee's report (PDF) recommending the ad-hoc and post-legislative scrutiny committees for the 2015/16 session of Parliament.

The Committee recommend the following committees be established:

  • An ad hoc committee on the UK's policy and practice of preventing sexual violence in conflict, prosecuting its perpetrators and supporting its victims.
  • An ad hoc committee on the development and implementation of national policy for the built environment.
  • An ad hoc committee on social mobility in the transition from school to work.
  • An ad hoc post-legislative scrutiny committee on the impact on people with disabilities of the Equality Act 2010.

The agreement to the report means that the House will be presented with formal motions to appoint the new Committees early in the next Parliament when the membership of the Committees will also be agreed.

The Liaison Committee's report also includes a summary of the work of the ad-hoc and pre-legislative Committees in the current session of Parliament and confirms that the current historically high level of Committee activity in the Lords is working well and should continue.
