Lords to question Government Minister on Science budget and strategy
Greg Clark MP, Minister for Universities, Science & Cities, to appear before Lords Science and Technology Committee
On Tuesday 10 March the Government's Science and Innovation Strategy will come under scrutiny by the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee.
The Committee will put questions to Greg Clark MP, Minister for Universities, Science & Cities, on issues such as the timing of the strategy so close to an election with an unknown resource budget, how the £5.9bn capital budget will be spent, and whether departmental budget cuts have had any impact on research.
At 11.30 on Tuesday, the Committee will ask the witness a range of questions, including:
- How do you divide your time between the three responsibilities inherent in your title?
- The strategy outlines specific areas of capital expenditure – namely ‘world class labs' and ‘scientific grand challenges' – can you give more details on these?
- What case will you be making for the science budget ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review?
- How have the research budgets of Government departments been affected by the departmental budget cuts brought in since 2010?; and
- How will the Research Councils review, announced in December, differ from the recently completed triennial review?
The evidence session will be held on Tuesday 10 March, at 11.30am in Committee Room 4a of the House of Lords.
