How can we ensure we have the quality and quantity of houses we need?
The House of Lords Committee on the Built Environment will this week take evidence from the Home Builders Federation and the Federation of Master Builders as it looks at how we can build the quantity and quality of houses needed to meet growing demand.
The Committee will hear from John Slaughter, Director of External Affairs, Home Builders Federation and Chris Carr, Chair of the Federation of Master Builders' Home Builders' Group
The Committee will ask the witnesses questions across a range of areas including:
- Whether they agree with evidence the Committee have received that suggests that the private sector will only be able to deliver around half of the new homes needed across England?
- Should some land in the green belt be re-designated to allow new house building?
- Is the speed of planning decision making a significant issue?
- Are developers accumulating large ‘land banks'? How can this land be quickly developed and delivered to the housing market?
- What changes need to be made to allow smaller companies to develop more new housing?
- What are house builders doing to improve the design standards of new housing developments?
The evidence session will start at 10:10am on Thursday 22 October in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
