Lords Committee to hear evidence on current legal issues from Lord Chief Justice

The session will cover a range of legal issues including:

• Management and recruitment of the judiciary as well as progress on increasing diversity in the judiciary;
• How to tackle the different perceptions and levels of trust in the legal system amongst different ethnic and religious communities;
• How the programme to modernise the Courts estate is progressing;
• What impact the widespread use of delegated legislation has on the judiciary;
• Whether the complexity and frequency of changes to immigration law are a concern; and,
• Whether special training for judges for posts in Wales is likely to lead to a de facto distinct Welsh jurisdiction.

The evidence session will start at 10:30am on Wednesday 27 April in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
