Lords to ask Government about safety of drones


Tomorrow, Thursday 21 April, the Transport Minister Robert Goodwill MP will be questioned by peers about its plans to ensure safe use of

The Minister will be also asked by the Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee about its drones strategy, how it will address privacy concerns, and the growing use of drones in built-up areas.

The Minister will be asked about the recent reports of a drone in collision with a passenger plane at Heathrow.

Questions that the Minister may be asked could include:

  • Following reports of the first drone strike with a passenger plane at Heathrow on the weekend, what steps is the Government taking to prevent similar drone strikes in future?
  • What is the Government doing to address privacy concerns about the growing use of drones in built up areas?
  • How are the CAA, the police and the Information Commissioner's Office working together to address this?
  • Can you provide more detail about the public dialogue events the Government recently held on drones, and its drones Strategy, which is to be published later this year?

The evidence session will be held in the House of Lords Committee Room 3 at 10.15am, on Thursday 21 April.
