How will universal credit impact on financial exclusion?


The House of Lords Committee on Financial Exclusion will tomorrow take evidence from Neil Couling, Director General of Universal Credit, Department for Work and Pensions and Gwyneth Nurse, Director of Financial Services, HM Treasury.

The session is the Committee's second day of evidence taking for their inquiry following evidence last week from the Money Advice Trust, Young Enterprise and MyBnk.

The evidence session with Mr Couling and Ms Nurse will start at 10:40am on Tuesday 12 July and will be held in Committee Room 2A of the House of Lords.

Areas the session will cover include:

  • How the Government defines financial exclusion and what strategy it has to eliminate it?
  • How the Government will measure the impact of Universal Credit on financial inclusion?
  • How effective has regulation of the payday loans sector been?
  • How effectively is work to tackle financial exclusion coordinated across government?
  • The Government's current use of financial technologies and the strategy for using FinTech to target financial exclusion?
