Lords committee to scrutinise role of DFID research and development
The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will next week hold a one-off evidence session on Government funding of international research and development work.
On Tuesday 12 July, the Committee will hear from an array of experts in the field before taking evidence from DFID's Chief Scientific Adviser and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
The Committee will question witnesses on areas such as:
- the role of DFID research and development;
- coordination between Government departments;
- the new multimillion pound Global Challenges Research Fund; and
- the strategies behind R&D.
At 10.40am the Committee will put questions to Professor Sir John Beddington, former Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Oxford University, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, University of Cambridge, Dr Jeremy Farrar, Wellcome Trust; and Professor Melissa Leach, Institute of Development Studies.
Then at 11.55am the Committee will hear from Professor Charlotte Watts, Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for International Development; Rurik Marsden, Deputy Director, Research and Evidence Division, DFID; and Jenny Dibden, Director Research Base, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Head of the Government Social Research Service.
The evidence sessions will start at 10:40am on Tuesday 12 July. They will be held in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
