Lords to debate EU issues- from EU reform to science to migration
The House of Lords will next week, Wednesday 15 June, hold two separate debates covering the subjects raised in several recent Lords committee reports.
Issues such as migration and people smuggling, the relationship between the membership of the EU and UK science, and the UK Government's vision for a reformed EU will all be debated.
Specifically, the recent Lords reports for discussion are:
- The EU referendum and EU reform
- The process of withdrawing from the European Union
- EU Membership and UK Science
The above three reports, the first two of which were prepared by the EU Committee, the last by the Science and Technology Committee, will be debated together. The Chairs of the two committees, Lord Boswell of Aynho and the Earl of Selborne, will speak to their reports, and Baroness Anelay of St Johns will reply on behalf of the Government.
- The EU Action Plan against migrant smuggling
- Operation Sophia, the EU's naval mission in the Mediterranean: an impossible challenge
The above two reports, both prepared by the EU Committee, will be debated together. Baroness Prashar (Chair of the EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee) and Lord Tugendhat (former Chair of the EU External Affairs Sub-Committee) will present their reports, and Lord Keen of Elie will reply on behalf of the Government.
