Lords appoint new permanent committee to investigate international relations


A new House of Lords Committee has been created to consider the United Kingdom's international relations.

Like the other permanent committees in the Lords it is envisaged that the work of the Committee will be cross-cutting and thematic – examining not only foreign affairs but also defence and international development matters, as well as considering current and long-standing issues in international affairs, and broader geo-political issues and trends.

The Committee's first inquiry is likely to be announced in early July 2016.

The House of Lords International Relations Committee was formally appointed on Wednesday 25 May and will be chaired by Lord Howell of Guildford.
