Does the internet damage children's mental health?
The Lords Communications Committee inquiry into children and the internet will next week, Tuesday 15 November, examine issues surrounding mental health, as well as the suitability of material online.
The Committee will put questions to mental health experts, as well as content monitoring bodies the Advertising Standards Agency and the British Board of Film Classification.
At 3:30pm the witnesses giving evidence will be Mr David Austen, Chief Executive Officer, British Board of Film Classification, and Mr Malcolm Phillips, Regulatory Policy Manager, Committee of Advertising Practice.
They will be asked about issues such as self-regulation, classification by age, and advertising awareness among children, among others.
Then at 4:30pm the Committee will hear from Dr Nihara Krause, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, stem4 and Dr Marc Bush, Chief Policy Adviser, Young Minds.
They will be asked about the connection between internet use and mental health, risks of habit-forming behaviour, and the differences between the genders when it comes to mental health issues.
The Committee will hold its evidence sessions from 3.30pm on Tuesday 15 November in the House of Lords Committee Room 2.
