How important is philanthropy? Lords committee asks
The importance of philanthropy, and digital innovation, to the charitable sector will be examined by the House of Lords Select Committee on Charities next week, Tuesday 15 November.
The Committee is assessing the sustainability of the charity sector, exploring the pressures and challenges they face, as well as the roles of governments and public bodies.
In the first session at 4.00pm, looking at philanthropy, the Committee will hear from Dr Beth Breeze, Director, Centre for Philanthropy, Philippa Charles, Director, Garfield Weston Foundation and Philip Lawford, Administrator, The Linbury Trust.
They will be asked about issues such as:
- the importance of philanthropy to the charitable sector
- changing trends in philanthropy, and
- charities being overlooked by donors.
In the second session, looking at digital innovation, at 5.00pm, Helen Milner OBE, Chief Executive, Tinder Foundation and Chester Mojay-Sinclare, Founder, Charity Checkout will both give evidence.
Areas that the Committee will explore with the witnesses will include:
- the contribution of digital innovation,
- the challenges of embracing digital innovation, and
- innovation and the measuring of impact by charities.
The evidence sessions will start at 4.00pm, on Tuesday 15 November in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
