Is NHS funding sustainable? Lords to hear from hospital trust chief executives and Royal College of GPs
The House of Lords Committee on the Long-Term Sustainability of the NHS will next week take evidence from the Chief Executives of Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield Hospitals as well as the Patients Association, Independent Age and the Royal College of GPs.
The Committee is investigating what changes are needed in the NHS to enable it to meet the challenge of the next 20 years and beyond.
The evidence sessions will start at 10:05am on Tuesday 15 November in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords. The witnesses giving evidence will be:

- Sir Michael Deegan, Chief Executive, Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
- Sir Andrew Cash, Chief Executive, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

- Katherine Murphy, Chief Executive of the Patients Association
- Janet Morrison, Chief Executive, Independent Age

- Sir Sam Everington, Chair of NHS Tower Hamlets CCG
- Dr Clare Gerada, Former Chair of the Royal College of GPs
- Professor Maureen Baker, Chair of the Royal College of GPs
Questions in the sessions will cover the long-term sustainability of the NHS and social care systems, whether Sustainability and Transformation Plans will provide a solution to current problems in the NHS and whether the current model of primary care is still fit for treating modern healthcare needs.
