Lords to question Sir Julian King on progress of Security Union
In a one off evidence session, The House of Lords EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee will question Sir Julian King, EU Commissioner for the Security Union on Tuesday 15 November.
Sir Julian King was appointed to the role of Commissioner for the Security Union in 2016 with the responsibility to identify where the EU can help fight terrorism and improve information sharing.
The session will provide the Committee with the opportunity to establish what Sir Julian King's priorities are in implementing The European Agenda on Security in its three main objectives: combating terrorism and preventing radicalisation, serious and organised cross-border crime, and cybercrime.
The Committee is likely to ask:
- Could you set out the immediate priorities for delivering the Agenda on Security and what you expect to have achieved within one or two years from now, while the UK remains a member of the EU?
- Given that national security remains a Member State competence, where do you see the line between areas that are the responsibility of individual Member States and the European Agenda on Security?
- In terms of cooperation with third countries, how are you working with non-EU countries such as Norway and Switzerland on the Security Agenda?
- What is the nature of cooperation with the US on the Security Agenda?
The evidence session will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday 15 November in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
