Governance of Charities: How good is their leadership, Lords ask
The Lords Committee on Charities will tomorrow, Tuesday 1 November, examine the challenges and opportunities of charity governance.
Giving evidence to the Committee will be experts on the field of charities, as well as charity leaders themselves.
The Lords Select Committee on Charities is assessing the sustainability of the charity sector, exploring the pressures and challenges they face, as well as the roles of governments and public bodies.
In the first session at 4.00pm, giving evidence will be Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts CBE, and Professor John Mohan, Director, Third Sector Research Centre.
They will be asked about:
- Challenges facing the charity sector
- Robustness of charity leadership
- Issues for smaller charities
- The relationship between trustees and staff
In the second session, at 4.50pm, the witnesses will be Shaks Ghosh, Chief Executive, Clore Social Leadership, Marged Griffiths, Chief Executive, Y Bont, and Eve Martin, Chair of Trustees, Brook.
They will be asked about:
- Benefits of good governance
- Potential skills shortages and recruitment
- Issues for smaller charities
- Regulations
The evidence sessions will start at 4.00pm, on Tuesday 1 November in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.
