Chancellor Philip Hammond to face Lords Economic Affairs Committee questions
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, will be questioned by the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee on Thursday 8 September 2016.
This is the first appearance of the Chancellor before a Parliamentary Committee since his appointment in July 2016.
The Committee is likely to ask the Chancellor:
- What is the Government's approach to financial policy and reducing the public debt?
- His views on people left behind by globalisation.
- What does the future hold for the City of London?
- His views on the proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point. Does the deal represents good value for money?
- What is the future of large infrastructure projects including HS2? How will they be funded?
The Chancellor appears annually before the Economic Affairs Committee. The Committee is chaired by Lord Hollick. Current Committee members include Lord Lamont of Lerwick and Lord Darling of Roulanish.
The evidence session will start at 3.35pm on Thursday 8 September in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
