David Davis to give evidence on Brexit to Lords EU Committee
David Davis MP, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, will next week give evidence to the House of Lords EU Committee as part of its scrutiny of the Brexit process.
The House of Lords EU Committee and its six Sub-Committees are conducting a coordinated series of short inquiries looking at the key issues that will arise in the forthcoming negotiations on Brexit. Taken as a whole, this programme of work will be the most extensive and thorough parliamentary scrutiny of Brexit.
The EU Select Committee is focusing on the role of Parliament in the Brexit process, while also investigating the impact of Brexit on UK-Irish relations.
The evidence session will start at 4:05pm on Monday 12 September in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
Areas the Committee will quiz Mr Davis on include:
- What role can Parliament play in making a success of Brexit?
- How can Parliament contribute to establishing a ‘national consensus' on Brexit?
- Should Minsters be required to consult Parliament before making commitments as part of the Brexit negotiations?
- How will the Department for Exiting the EU, which David Davis leads, coordinate its work with No.10, the Cabinet Office, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Trade?
- How can any negative impact on UK-Irish relations and North-South relations be minimised?
