Has the social care system reached its tipping point?
What will happen if more money is not spent on funding the social care system? How financially sustainable are care homes reliant on local authority-funded residents? Is it fair for self-funders to be paying higher fees than local authority-funded residents?
These are among the questions the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will be asking a panel of witnesses on Tuesday 29 January 2019.
At 3.35pm the Committee will question:
- Colin Angel, Policy and Campaigns Director, UK Homecare Association
- Douglas Cooper, Project Director, Competition and Markets Authority
- Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive, Care England.
These witnesses are giving evidence to the Committee's inquiry into the funding of social care in England.
Other questions likely to be covered in this session are:
- How successful have attempts been to create a market in social care provision? Is the sector suitable for marketisation?
- Do the public understand how to navigate the social care system?
- Should there be greater integration between the NHS and social care?
- How could technology assist care workers and help people remain in their own home for longer?
- Why are there high vacancy and turnover rates in social care and how can they be reduced?
This evidence session, which is open to the public, will start at 3.35pm on Tuesday 29 January 2019 in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
