Lords EU Committee to hear from Institute for Government, Open Europe and UK in a Changing Europe on ‘no deal' planning
The House of Lords EU Committee will next week take evidence on the state of the UK's no deal preparations. The session will be held on Tuesday 29 January as the House of Commons votes on the next steps for Brexit in line with the provisions of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018.
The Committee will hear from leading think tanks engaged in analysing Brexit and the operations of Government. The session will start at 4pm on Tuesday 29 January in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords. The witnesses will be:
- Henry Newman, Director, Open Europe
- Professor Anand Menon, Director UK in a Changing Europe
- Tim Durrant, Senior Researcher, Institute for Government
Areas the Committee will cover with the witnesses include:
- The impact of the ‘Meaningful Vote' in the House of Commons on the prospects for a no deal Brexit.
- Options to resolve the current impasse and whether the EU will be willing to reopen negotiations.
- How prepared Government departments are for a no deal Brexit and which departments are most vulnerable in the event of a ‘no deal'.
- How EU Member States are preparing for ‘no deal'.
- The impact of no deal on the island of Ireland.
- The legislation Parliament would have to pass to prepare for a ‘no deal' outcome.
