What can the UK learn about the provision of forensic science in other countries?
On Thursday 24th January the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee will ask the President of the International Association of Forensic Science about what can be learnt from the forensic science provision in the criminal justice system in other jurisdictions.
The evidence session will begin at 9.30am in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords. Giving evidence via video link will be:
- Professor Claude Roux, Director of Centre for Forensic Science, University of Technology, Sydney, and President of International Association of Forensic Sciences.
Questions the Committee are likely to ask include:
- Are they any lessons from the way the forensic science market operates in other jurisdictions that can learned for England and Wales?
- Where are the gaps in forensic science research and in the understanding of forensic science evidence given your experiences in various jurisdictions?
- What approaches have successfully provided a current source of responsive, independent, balanced and accessible analysis of emerging science and technology to those involved in criminal investigations, case management, and the delivery of justice?
- What would be the attributes of a culture of innovation in forensic science that addresses both technological advances and foundational forensic science research, and incorporates the needs of all the main stakeholders?
