Financial Secretary to the Treasury to face questions on HMRC's powers
Are some participants in disguised remuneration schemes more culpable than others? Does HMRC's enforcement activity receive sufficient scrutiny? What has the impact of Making Tax Digital for VAT been for small businesses so far?
These are among the questions the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will be asking Jesse Norman MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, at 3.35pm on Tuesday 16 July 2019.
Other questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- What assessment has been made of the mental health of individuals pursued by the loan charge?
- What is HMRC's progress in pursuing both promoters of disguised remuneration schemes and businesses that benefited from their use by contractors?
- Has access to justice diminished in the tax system in recent years?
- Did the Treasury challenge HMRC on the need for an extension to the time limits for assessing offshore matters to 12 years?
This evidence session, which is open to the public, will start at 3.35pm on Tuesday 16 July 2019 in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
