Lords to debate Seaside Towns Regeneration Committee report
On Monday 1 July 2019 members of the House of Lords will debate the Regenerating Seaside Towns Committee's report, The future of seaside towns, which was published in April 2019.
The report concluded that many seaside towns and coastal communities were in desperate need of improvements to transport, housing and broadband. Better access to further and higher education for young people in seaside towns was needed too. Through a package of strategic initiatives and interventions where national and local government work together seaside towns could be inspired to reinvent themselves.
The debate will be opened by the Committee's Chairman, Lord Bassam of Brighton, and held in the House of Lords Chamber.
Over 15 members are scheduled to speak in the debate. See the list of speakers.
Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth will respond on behalf of the Government.
The debate is expected to start at some point after 3pm on Monday 1 July 2019.
